No child is ever 'drownproof''. Acquainting your child with the water and teaching him/her essential skills from an early age will assist in the development of a life-long positive relationship with water, and will go a long way towards ensuring their safety around the water. However, children of any age should be supervised around water, as no amount of swimming lessons can prevent accidental drownings.
Learn-to-swim
The splash! Learn-to-Swim Programme, for children aged from about 3 to 12 years, offers 15 minute individual intensive lessons which encourage water competency and the correct development of strokes. There is a strong emphasis on fun and developing a love and respect for the water in all our swimmers.
splash! teachers use constructive games, activities and swimming drills, as well as the essential teaching tools of routine, repetition and consistency, to guide each swimmer through 9 levels of water safety, water competency, and stroke development. In addition to the basic skills, children also learn about safety in and around the water, the importance of listening to their teacher and following instructions, and respect for the other children and adults who use the pool.
Children in need of Stroke Correction can also be accommodated in our Learn-to-Swim Programme, as we have the flexibility to offer 15-minute individual lessons or 30-minute semi-private lessons, depending on the child's particular needs. The close attention of our experienced and dedicated teachers, combined with the advantage of practicing drills in a 25m length, helps children to focus on problem areas while building up fitness and stamina in a relatively non-competitive environment.
Lessons run Monday to Friday between 12:30 and 4:30pm, and on a Saturday between 8 and 11:30am, throughout the year according to the government school terms. Attending lessons twice a week will help your child to get acquainted with the programme and learn the skills much faster, as the repetition and consistency will help to reinforce what is learnt. Children who swim twice a week really do learn the essential skills twice as fast, and retain the skills for a lot longer if they take a break, as the routine and consistency helps them to become ingrained.
